During the earthquake, a car crashed into a bus
stop bench, creating numerous victims. This incident sent CERT to
the rescue! Our CERT’s rescue team rushed to the scene, at
the center of the field, where moulaged victims lay bleeding. Extinguishing
the car fire and triaging the victims’ injuries for "immediate,"
"delayed" or "minor" medical attention. Once
the victims’ medical needs were identified, they were sent
to the appropriate treatment centers, denoted by color tarps indicating
level of treatment need. One of the victims was pinned beneath the
car. A cribbing crew was sent in to lift the car and release the
victim (the moulage dummy).
Our "Victims" demo was a real success.
Five of our six victims were saved. Though, the dummy, under the
car, went to the morgue. Our community was able to see how CERT
training can help them when a disaster strikes, whether it’s
an emergency on the street, on your city block or in your home.
A special "Thanks" goes to Torrance CERTs
for volunteering their time and services to make our triage simulation
a success!
