AREA SURVEY 2004
1-11-04 AREA SURVEY WITH FIRE ENGINEER BOB HERRERA

RBCERTAA would like to thank Engineer Herrera for doing this very informative training on his day off. We walked around our neighborhood looking for potential hazards in case of a major disaster.

Area survey should be done preferably in teams of two. If you do not have enough man power, rule number one is SAFETY. Record and report so you don't get injured
Scan area constantly for potential collapse of electrical poles, trees, balconies, falling glass and roof tiles. In case of evacuation, assist if help is needed, get people to safety where nothing can injured them (have a possible temporary shelter)

Start at an anchor point, as people will go different directions to survey the area, have everyone meet back at that anchor point.

Think system: Where are your safety zones if something goes wrong?

Look for damages from the outside - Call out - people could be inside the house or garage.

Look for electric power line going to the house, look for water and gas shut-offs. Document water leak, possible flooding of house.

Remember look up and down

Be aware of highly dangerous hazards, such as potential petroleum leakage, or wire down from a high voltage electric tower
