ABOUT CERT

Purpose
The COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM or CERT are members of the community trained by the Redondo Beach Fire Department to know what to do before, during and after an emergency.  CERT alumni are better able to take care of themselves, their family and neighbors and can help the Redondo Beach Fire Department during major emergencies.

Although Fire and Police emergency service personnel are the best trained and equipped to handle disasters, they will not be able to help everyone in post disaster response and recovery. You can make the difference by using the training you will receive to save lives and protect property. By working with other trained volunteers you will do the greatest good for the greatest number of people while protecting yourself.

History
The Los Angeles City Fire Department founded the CERT program to enlist members of the community to prepare for action during major emergencies.  The program is now nationwide and coordinated through the Citizen Corps within the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  CERT personnel across the country receive similar training,

Are You Ready?
Upon successfully completing the training, you will be registered as a CERT volunteer with the Redondo Beach Fire Department and FEMA.  The Redondo Beach CERT Alumni Association was formed to to keep members updated on new information and classes, re-certification of CPR and first aid, and mock disaster drills.

See CERT Training for class information and a class application form.
