Meeting called to order by President Garth McWhorter at 6:30 p.m. (9 board members present.)
Role call done by secretary, member absent: Mike Grady .
Motion to approve minutes and financials for October 5th, 2004.
Lisa Burke made a motion to approve the minutes and financials. Alisa Zells seconded the motion.
Introductions of our guests: Jennifer Adam and Peter DePortillo.
Old Business:
Treasurer’s Report: Michael Vaccaro gave kudos to Julie Treher for a job well done selling RBCERTAA apparel during the months of August, September and October, 2004.
Deposits included $672.00 for apparel sales and a $25.00 check received from John Moawad made payable to CERT for Randy Stacy’s reception & Melissa Stacy.
Michael Vaccaro advised that an application for a RBCERTAA debit card has been made. Still needed is the date of the Articles of Incorporation. Jared asked if the current President’s name and Executive Officers should be on the State Board of Equalization Certification?
Garth McWhorter presented a bill of $33.73 for his moulage shield at the Patriots Day drill on 9/11/04
Valerie Heath presented her bills for the Patriots Day drill and for materials for the Torrance CERT certificates for assisting RBCERTAA. The amount was unknown.
Garth McWhorter requested that we put 4 or 5 sand bags in the trailer for future use.
Lisa Burke submitted a request for $100.00 reimbursement for Class 27 graduation moulage used on 10/30/04.
Drills & Trainings:
Lisa Burke stated that Class 27 graduation was very impressive and well-organized.
The next CERT class begins in February 2005. The last continuing education class
(Utilities) for 2004 meets on 11/20/04 at 09:00 AM at
Peter DePortillo asked if anyone found phone numbers for Class 25? Julie Treher stated that class members from Class 25 should e-mail their information to her.
Jared wants Continuing Education on Shelter training from Red Cross perhaps in June 2005.
Communications:
Bob Heil is trying to organize a training session on radios in February 2005.
Funding & Equipment:
Gary Horn stated that oxygen tanks can be refilled behind Station 2.
Trailer:
Per Gary Horn, the trailer needs to be cleaned and re-organized since it was previously used on Patriot’s Day (9/11/04).
Peter DePortillo stated that we should consolidate the trailer committees.
Boutique CERT:
Michael Vaccaro stated that he was uncertain whether we started off with 1000 CERT hats and asked if anyone remembered what the original order was. Nobody could specifically remember. To date, nine hats @ $5.00 per hat have been sold and $45.00 has been paid to Jim Chen per the original reimbursement agreement made when the hats were purchased. The hats were sold for $10.00 each.
Two more hats were sold on 10/30/04 for $10.00 each. Lisa Burke said that she will be doing another
CERT class in
Discussion took place regarding selling hats on the internet to other CERT groups for a $10.00 donation.
Michael Vaccaro advised that we should research previous minutes and ask Pam Hoole about her knowledge of previous hat sales and the initial order amount.
Lisa Burke suggested that we sell hats and lanyards to other CA CERT groups.
Julie Treher wants to order 30 new embroidered shirts for a total of $360.00. The shirts were very popular when priced at $20.00 per shirt. However, the sizing of the shirts was incorrect. Discussion took place whether or not to raise the prices since the black shirts are very popular.
A motion was made to make a check payable to Express Supply for $360.00 for a new shirt order. Jared seconded the motion. It was approved unanimously
Phone Tree:
Julie Treher advised that we have no new Phone Tree updates. Mike Grady is still in charge of the committee.
Website:
Web Site Director, Valerie Heath explained that she cannot seek out web site sponsors at this time,
due to the time constraints of her schedule.
A discussion was tabled for a future agenda regarding e-mail address hyper-links for each of the board members.
Graduation Drill
Committee:
Per Lisa Burke, the Graduation Committee is doing a great job. The graduation on 10/30/04 was an
excellent exercise with many enthusiastic graduates.
It should be noted that EMT students from El Camino College receive special credit from the school for participating as victims at RBCERT graduation day.
Julie Treher is working on a power point presentation for recruiting purposes. Jennifer Adam and Peter DePortillo suggested going through the schools to recruit new CERT students. However, Jared Van Sloten said that it is the job of the RB Fire Department to recruit new students.
New Business:
Review of Patriot’s Day Event
1. Documentation of the Skit is being completed by Lisa Burke and Jared Van Sloten.
2. Promotional Video from tapes: Bob gave a copy of an analogue tape to Mike Grady,
and three different sources of tapes are in a holding pattern at the present time.
3. The Fire Department had positive feedback regarding the Patriot’s Day skit.
Fire Department’s Corner:
l. The Continuing Education program was tentatively compiled for 2005 to include the following classes:

By laws proposals
Discussion regarding the by laws was tabled by President, Garth McWhorter until January 2005.
Tracking of volunteer hours for National
Government Recognition
1. Alisa Zells, Michael Vaccaro and Mike Grady have logged volunteer hours on-line.
2. See Channel 52, Adelphia Cable (Public Access Channel) on Thursday 11/4/04 at 6:00 PM to see Lynn Brennan’s Senior Life Show. Film footage from Patriot’s Day RBCERTAA skit will be shown.
Election of Board Member
Jeff Adam, Jennifer Adam and Peter DePortillo were previously nominated to run for the board. Jeff Adam did not attend the meeting. The contenders for the board member position were Jennifer Adam and Peter DePortillo. Jennifer Adam was voted in as our newest board member.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. Torrance CERT Certificates- Certificates of Appreciation were awarded by President, Garth McWhorter to the volunteers from Torrance CERT who assisted RBCERTAA with the Patriot’s Day skit.
2. Swearing in Certificate for Gary Horn was not available yet.
3. Gary Horn took photos of Lisa Burke and Julie Treher in their orange jackets for the web site.
4. Next board meeting is January 4th, 2005.
5. Items from the Floor:
a. Jared wants to publish a newsletter in December of 2004. He needs pictures from Lisa and Gary. Lisa can write about safety tips. Alisa can write about the Fire Department Open House. We can have pictures of the new apparel.

Heil found magnetic backing for RBCERTAA decals so we can put them on our
vehicles during parades or just for
general use. Alisa took the roll of magnetic materials to store for future use.
