Meeting called to order by Vice President, Alisa Zells at 6:32 p.m. (6 board members present.)
Board members President,Garth McWhorter, Secretary, Margot Hoffman, Julie Treher and Jared Van
Sloten came to the board meeting at 7:15pm. due to
Introduction of guests by Vice President, Alisa Zells.
Motion to approve minutes for September was made by Mike Grady and seconded by Lisa Burke. Passed by 6 board members present.
Old Business:
Treasurers Report:
Discussed $100.00 submitted for drill to cover food at the Sept. 19th drill paid for by Mike Grady.
Discussed $25.00 submitted last month for check written to RBCERTAA for Melissa Stacy by John
Moawad.
Discussed $100.00 submitted for moulage on Patriots Day by Lisa Burke.
Discussed $720.00 submitted by Mike Grady for golf shirts.
The RBCERTAA board members decided to wait until all board members arrived.
Margot Hoffman’s bill for food for the first CERT class #27 and other functions were paid in the amount of $68.14.
Garth McWhorter’s request for payment of the Patriot’s Day Moulage tent was not honored due to lack of receipts.
Committee Reports & Activities:
Current Activities:
Discussion was held about volunteers to price items needed for our response center. Michael Vaccaro,
Gary Horn and Peter Deportillo formed a committee to work on it and will submit an estimate at next month’s board meeting.
October 30th graduation was discussed and Lisa reported that all of the preparations are in place and ready to go.
A discussion was brought regarding having Safety Officers at the graduations and other events. The Safety Officers would wear Blue Vests and hard hats which would easily identify them in a crowd.
Drills/Training (Matt/Rick)
The next CERT class begins in February, 2005. No further information provided.
The next drill will be on Saturday, November 20th,

WEB Site/Sponsorship:
Valerie Heath, Web Site Director, was not in attendance, so no web site information regarding updates and sponsorships was provided.
Funding & Equipment:
No new information was provided regarding the Cert trailer program.
Phone Tree:
Julie Treher and Mike Grady are always seeking volunteers to work on the phone tree.
La Boutique:
Lisa Burke made a motion to accept a minimum donation for the new RBCERT shirt. (The shirts cost
approximately $11.00). Gary Horn seconded the motion.
Motion passed for the cost of the shirt to be $20.00. Ten board members unanimously voted to accept
the cost of the shirt to be $20.00.
Julie Treher gave Michael Vaccaro $149.00 for sales of CERT apparel.
Alisa Zells stated that she has possibly two damaged CERT bags.
Mike Grady stated that he has 4 CERT bags in the trailer and that 4 bags are missing in action.
Mike Grady advised that 1 bag was given to RBFD Capt. Rick Martinez.
Julie Treher said that she would make a sign that only RBCERTAA members can purchase Cert shirts for a donation of $20.00.
Mike Grady mentioned that Jim Chen wants a check for hat sales
Hat prices stay at $10.00. Jim Chen gets a check for hats at the November, 2004 meeting for an undisclosed amount.
Graduation Drill Committee
Lisa Burke stated that the Graduation Committee is ready for graduation activities on Saturday, October 30th, 2004.
New Business:
Garth wanted to have the skit documented to have for future use. Garth advised that the skit would be a good learning tool for the alumni members if we were all cross-trained.
October 17th, 2004, Garth will present one certificate of appreciation to the Torrance CERTAA group for their assistance in our Patriots Day skit.
A motion was made to allow Garth to purchase a frame to present the certificate to the Torrance CERT group.
Garth will request certificate materials from Valerie Heath.
Mike Grady asked for all Patriot’s Day skit materials to be given to Lynn Brennan to be edited for the television show, SENIOR LIVING .
Gary Horn brought up possible liability issues with our photos being displayed on a television show.
b. Fire Department Corner
No Fire Department Liason was present at the board meeting.
c. Tracking of
volunteer hours for Volunteer Recognition Program
Alisa
created a form for tracking the volunteer hours. Also it should be noted that
hours can be tracked on-line as well.
Mike Grady stated
reminder notices should be sent to board members on a monthly basis.
Mike Grady made a motion to approve the treasurer’s
report. The 10 board members present approved

Julie stated that
more coffee and plates are needed for the RBCERT class at the library.
A check for $100.00
was approved for Mike Grady’s food for the drill on 9/19/04
Announcements:
Lisa Burke issued a challenge to the CERT class to get their bags organized and stocked. On
9/30/04,
Lisa awarded a shirt
and a knife to the two winners of the challenge.
Lisa Burke is asking
for $20.00 per quarter to pay for the HOT LINE.
Mike Grady made a motion
To pay for the past
quarter bill and future bills for the HOT LINE. The motion was seconded by
Alisa
Zells.
Mike Grady stated
that RBCERTAA should get an ATM card to pay for AOL and web page payments.
Lisa also asked for
reimbursement for any award items she gives to students who win the CERT bag
challenge in future classes. Mike Grady said that per the RBFD, that future classes will have to come to
class with fully equipped bags and that no contests will be held.
Jared Van Sloten
made suggestions regarding the Randy Stacy Scholarship Fund.
Mike Grady nominated
Jennifer and Jeff Adam for the open board member position.
Peter DePortillo
attended a board meeting and has CPR certification. He was nominated for a position on the
RBCERTAA Board of Directors also.
Julie Treher and
Gary Horn were sworn in as new board members.

to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 PM.
Having no further
business, a motion to adjourn was made by Mike Grady, at approximately 8:50 PM.
